Albeit that I have contributed little to the discussion, I am finding since the readings last week, my mind keeps wandering at the most odd points of the day. For example, I know that we are looking at 'defining evaluation of ict' and I have taken notes from the information we have been given, but it got me to thinking - When is technology emerging and when is it already established? I am beginning to think more and more about this because if you don't use a particular technology, it is neither merging nor established. It is similar to the point I was trying to make about whether we are moving with technology or is technoloy moving us... (all this bought about becuase of the reading of 'evaluating technology... go figure...)
So, with this in mind, I hit Chapel Street on Sunday to walk down one side and then back the other. This was between Commerical Toorak and Toorak Road. I was doing a bit of a 'research' & 'evaluation' of 'emerging' technology... I wanted to see how many businesses were promoting their association with QR CODING, FACEBOOK or TWITTER. The perimater of the research was simple. Look at the shop window and find THE SQUARE, THE 'F' or THE BIRD... I purposely chose Chapel Street as it is considered by most to be a fairly 'trendy' area of the second largest city in Australia.
I was very surprised with what I found.
Of over 100 stores... only 28 of them had any reference to any of them. More surpisingly, only 9 of them had all three and of the 9 QR CODES... only 3 of them actually registered the scan.
