Tweet... Tweet

For several years I never 'got' the concept of TWITTER. It was not until I had applied for the Lyndsay Thompson Fellowship here in Victoria and also the change in the structure of FACEBOOK, that I really began to see the advantage in this understated, 140 character form of social networking.

Our school launched it's first TWITTER account this week and I am happy to report I had real engagement with my Principal as we discussed the pros, cons and everything in between. We had a laugh because it's taken over a year to get my school DIGITALLY READY for the experience that is TWITTER.

A few things...  Here in lies my first real understanding of how social networking links with the transformation of knowledge. The technology became relevant to me. Unless you have the buy-in of others technology can remain a fear for some. If you continue to plod along and create your own agenda regarding technology... TIME will prove fruitful.

I bought this TIME MAGAZINE a few years back when TWITTER was on the radar...I read it again last weekend and I finally got it... So as an educator... I constantly remind myself ... technology needs to be relevant to the task at hand because if it's not... there's no point in using it in the first place...

Have a nice weekend

Life is full of Bubbles

Saturday Morning 14th April, 2012.

As a side line, the RMS TITANIC (today  is the centenary of it's collision with that piece of ice), was the most technological advanced ship for it's day.

One of the best ways to commence a PhD is with the following website... www.bubbl.us

This website is a free mind mapping site that allows users to create a mind map for any any idea upon which they wish to expand and analise. Play around it with - you can't break and it really does create something meaningful.

I'm moving house this weekend. And my space limit is almost up. Have a nice weekend... Cheers Steven

New Directions...

No this is not a blog about Glee... However, it is a blog about the various paths we choose in this lifetime.

Firstly, my goal is to keep my blog entries to fitting into this rectangular in front of me. Realistically, I cannot spend the hours I once put into previous blogs I have had over the years... Like any writing, it is a craft to be worked at. Unfortunately, it is only the end product what most people experience.

So... the new direction for me is to identify the causes that are important to me. I want... no... I need to find balance of what I need to do, what I have to do and what I want to do...

I'm working on the research side of finding the link between social networking and the transformation of knowledge in children... and I know that neurological patterns are probably a good place to start...

have a good day everyone

Wisdom of a New Generation...

Here is a nice video summary of one of the many reasons as to why I am doing my PhD. I feel this path is likened to a destiny and an enormous responsibility that I feel toward the future. I see it every day I teach children. As my blog unfolds, I will discuss the various aspects of why, what, who, when and how.... but for now, sure and steady wins the race... I shared this link from my friend, Jane. Both of us are not part of the new generation... we're just determined to be part of the future with a bit of wisdom...

Enjoy...

PhD... The Adventure Begins

Ever since I can remember I had always wanted to be a Doctor. I know, had things been different, I would now probably be a GP on the Royal Flying Doctor Service in the outback of Queensland. However, as with all well laid plans of youth, those plans evolve over the years to become something different to what we had initially imagined...
I work as a educator of students in the primary school setting. I enjoy my job very much and over the past 20 years (I commenced my teaching career at Mt Isa Central School in 1992), I have seen education of primary students evolve mostly in the field of technology.
I am now commencing my journey to become a Doctor... but not a medical practitioner... to become a Doctor of Philosophy... I am going to undertake a PhD in establishing a link between social networking and student learning outcomes.
I am now commencing this blog to run in tandem with that journey.
It all begins...
Cheers
